Stems are simple or branched and creeping; upper portions are often matted and typically floating. Stem and leaf veins are often reddish in color. Leaves are alternate, oblong and usually form clusters. Bright yellow, sometimes white, flowers are solitary, trumpet-shaped. Root at stem nodes. Plant is always glabrous (smooth) with no hairs.
