Western Meadow Rue | Thalictrum occidentale

It’s hard to photographically convey the delicate beauty of western meadow rue. You may see this leafy plant when walking the trails at Peavy Arboretum. Compound leaves with three-lobed leaflets. The male and female flowers are found on different plants. Flowering from early to mid-summer, the male flowers have dangling purple anthers and the female flowers are upright clusters. Meadow rue makes a beautiful companion to bleeding heart in a shady garden or forest understory.
